This certification program is a truly unique and comprehensive learning journey and thus require that you have at least 3-4 years of facilitation experience. This experience can come from working in one or several of these roles:

Previous facilitation experience is a prerequisite.

This certification program is a unique and comprehensive facilitator development program for facilitators, coaches, consultants and learning and development professionals, who want to learn how to safely and effectively facilitate processes and groups in the great outdoors.

Several scientific research studies reveal the effectiveness of facilitating with the natural world compared to class room facilitation, from improved working memory, increased focus, attention and clarity of thought to creative thinking, perspective taking, improved collaboration and higher learning retention.

What you’ll learn:

  • Foundations and principles of Outdoor Facilitation

  • How to work with the natural world as a co-facilitator and how to blend in the symbolic, energetic and contemplative powers of nature into your facilitation

The certification program in a nutshell

The outdoor facilitation training gives you confidence and courage for the integration of natural elements in group processes. As a result, sustainable transformation in organizations can unfold more naturally.

The process:

Before enrolling into the program, you’ll be invited to a brief consultation call with one of our trainers to manage expectations, what you’d like to gain from the program and assess your credentials for successfully completing the program.

We work with elements of self-awareness and personal development in combination with experiential knowledge transfer and implementation. We will find ourselves in a constant change of impulses, experiences and reflections and enable a transfer into our own everyday life.

After the 1-day integration module, we meet 2 times online and provide a community platform to facilitate the integration of what we’ve learned and share experiences and practices.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

DAY 1: Arriving and learning to sense natural environments and yourself

  • Arrival practice individual and in a circle

  • Opening ceremony

  • 7 Sensory practices

  • Listening practices - the 5 levels

  • Experience the attributes of different natural environment and cultivating nature awareness

  • Experience nature as a co-facilitator

  • The 7 foundations for effective outdoor-based facilitation

DAY 2: Outdoor-based facilitation - frameworks and techniques

  • Accessibility and safety in nature

  • Matching client case with activity selection and design specific to outdoor settings (Design Star)

  • How group dynamics change in natural settings and how to embrace it

  • Building trust and connection in a nature-based group setting

  • Practice sensing, recognizing and dealing with group dynamics

  • Experiment Outdoor facilitation exercises and tools

DAY 3: Planning and executing an outdoor-based facilitation

  • Prepare and rehearse practicum

  • Facilitation execution and Hot-chair feedback based on the 7 foundations of effective outdoor facilitation

  • Comprehensive review of course concepts and skills

  • Individual reflection and goal-setting for continued development

2-hour follow up webinar

  • Emergency response and evacuation planning

  • Communicating outdoor-based facilitation tenders to the business world

Practicum

  • Design, execute and evaluate min. 2 outdoor facilitation sessions (Optional: Supervision)

DAY 4: Integration

  • Feedback circles, lessons learned

  • Establishing a personal code of conduct in natural settings

  • Sit-spot self awareness based on Find Your Flow

  • Certification ceremony, group photo and closing ceremony
